Astana talks opportunity should be grasped: UN envoy
IRNA – The UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura urged all sides to make their efforts to de-escalate tensions and to prevent the failure of talks in collaboration with each other on Wednesday.
The present situation of Syria and the re-escalation of tensions and conflicts are of the UN’s serious concern, he explained.
He also mentioned the recent airstrikes as the cause of growing concerns in the present tricky situations, and called for conducting a thorough investigation of recent incidents and taking necessary measures to ensure stopping carrying out airstrikes.
Creating tense-free and calm atmosphere should be high on the participants’ agenda to reach a mutual agreement in the talks, he added.
The provided opportunity is great and shouldn’t be missed, he stressed.
The two-day intra-Syrian talks with delegations from Iran, Russia, and Turkey present at the meeting as guarantors of the talks started on Wednesday in Astana, Kazakhstan.
